The Kalapa is an empowerment curriculum and a developmental pathway for Positive Change Agents, Sustainability Activists, Evolutionaries, Changemakers, and Cultural Creatives.
It is organized around the 8 directions of the compass rose, and is comprised of 8 Core Competencies and their respective Best Practices.
The Kalapa is the result of 30 years of research, study, and practice by Alan Rafael Seid — but as with any general framework, most of the details come from other contributors.
As of this writing we are in the early stages of the project, and expect to expand the multimedia capabilities and offerings over time.
We place ourselves within two larger movements: The Consciousness Revolution, and The Ecological Sustainability Revolution.
Why
These times of species extinction, peak oil, and climate change, call for us to be our best and to contribute to a positive transformation through these collective challenges.
It is not merely a matter of re-tooling or creating new systems and structures — though that work is a critical component. What got us into this mess in the first place are stories that no longer serve us about who we are, what constitutes the good life, and what our shared destiny is on this little blue rock hurtling through space.
The visions and stories we have inherited about who we are and what constitutes a good life are outdated. An economy predicated on infinite growth is cancerous, because it cannot outgrow its ecological context and remain viable. Economy must be a subset of Ecology, and this implies changing almost everything about how humans live on the Earth. Healing the Human/Nature split and reintegrating humans into the landscape while preserving quality of life, implies a deep personal and spiritual transformation.
Attempting to embed itself in the emerging paradigm, the Kalapa is a comprehensive and cohesive approach to personal and professional growth and transformation, as well as skill-building for contributing more powerfully to positive change.
